The Competition.

A long, long time ago
all the animals
lived in the jungle.

They were all friends
and lived together happily.

Nobody had enemies.
All the animals could talk, too.

One day,
some people
came to the jungle.

The rhinoceros
heard the people talking.

They said that
he was the strongest animal
they had ever seen.

This made the rhinoceros very proud.

He went to the elephant and said, “I am stronger than you.” The elephant became very angry. He ran to the bear and told the bear. The bear said, “I am stronger than you, too.”


The elephant became even angrier. He made a very big noise. All the other animals came running to see what was happening. They were running so fast that they couldn’t see where they were going.

The giraffe stepped on the lion’s foot and broke his toe.

The lion became angry and bit the giraffe’s tail.

The tail tasted very good, so the lion started to eat meat.


The owl saw what was going on. He said, “Let’s have a competition to see who is the strongest of all.”


The elephant won the competition. The bear was so angry that he ran away to the forest. He took the fox and the jaguar with him.

The camel was scared, so he went to the desert. All the other animals stopped talking to each other.
