Maggie’s family
went on vacation.
They traveled
to Canada
and stayed
in a forest.
They lived in a cabin
under very big trees.
The tall trees
provided shade
so it was
dark and cool
under the trees.
There was
a little stream
close to their cabin.
Some fish
and some frogs
lived in the stream
and many animals
came to the stream
to drink water.
They woke up early
every morning.
After breakfast,
they put on
their hiking boots (登山靴)
and went for
very long walks.
They also
took their cameras
to take pictures
of all the animals.
Maggie’s father
loves bird watching.

He liked listening
to the birds singing
and he used binoculars
to look at the birds
high up in the trees.

all the beautiful trees
and plants
in the forest.
Lots of the trees
in the forest
are very tall
and very old.

grow under the trees

grow in the streams.

it is cool and damp
in the forest.
Many animals
live in the forest.
Some chipmunks
and squirrels
live in the trees.
They like
to eat acorns.
The robins (知更鸟)
and crows
build nests
in the trees.
At night,
Maggie could hear
some owls moving
in the trees
and looking for food.
Maggie found
a rabbit hole
in the ground
and she saw a rabbit
run in and out.
Some snakes
also live in holes
under the ground.
Deer, bears, raccoons,
porcupines
and foxes
live on the ground.
Maggie’s family
stayed in the cabin
for two weeks.
