Combine Sentences with “While“
Use “while”
followed by the Past Continuous Tense
( was / were + Verb-ing )
to combine two sentences where:
i. two actions happened
at the same time in the past
ii. both actions took a long time
c.
Combine and rewrite the sentences:
1.
The man watched the monkeys.
They ate some fruit.
While the man was watching the monkeys,
they were eating some fruit.
2.
Andy was driving the jeep.
Tom was taking photographs.
Andy was driving the jeep
while Tom was taking photographs.
3.
The elephant took a bath.
The crocodiles swam in the river.
The elephant was taking a bath
while the crocodiles were swimming in the river.
4.
The jaguar looked at the anteater.
It ate some ants.
While the jaguar was looking at the anteater,
it was eating some ants.
5.
Some people sat in the jeeps.
The lions walked around the tents.
Some people were sitting in the jeeps
while the lions were walking around the tents.
6.
The tiger was sleeping under a tree.
The owl was sitting on a branch.
While the tiger was sleeping under a tree,
the owl was sitting on a branch.
7.
The iguana walked under the table.
Andy made breakfast.
The iguana was walking under the table
while Andy was making breakfast.
8.
The zebras were drinking water.
The monkeys were playing next to the river.
While the zebras were drinking water,
the monkeys were playing next to the river.
