Telescopes  and  Stars

Comprehension:

Mike  learned  about
Galileo  Galilei
who  was  one  of
the  first  astronomers.

The  first  astronomers
used  telescopes
to  observe  the  stars
and  the  planets.

Mike  wanted
to  buy  a  telescope
immediately,
but  he  didn’t  have
enough  money.

He  talked  to  his  dad
and  asked  him  for  help.

Mike’s  dad
promised  to  help  him,
but  he  said
that  Mike  had  to
save  some  money  first.

Mike  started  selling
all  the  vegetables
in  his  vegetable  garden.

He  also  washed
his  neighbor’s  cars
every  Saturday.

Soon,  Mike  had
enough  money
and  he  went
to  the  big  shopping  mall
with  his  dad.

They  looked  at
many  different  telescopes
before  Mike  chose  the  one
he  liked  the  best.

Mike  was  very  excited
and  he  couldn’t  wait
to  start
looking  at  the  stars.

He  had  to  wait
until  it  was  dark
before  he  could  use
his  new  telescope
to  look  at  the  stars.

Mike’s  dad  said  that
the  sun  is  too  bright
during  the  day,
so  it  is  easier
to  see  the  stars
at  night.

There  were  no  clouds
in  the  sky  that  evening.

Mike,  Maggie  and  Tammy
took  the  telescope
up  to  the  top  floor
of  their  house.

They  went  outside
on  the  flat  roof
and  Mike  set  up
the  telescope.

When  the  telescope
was  ready,
the  children  took  turns
to  look  at  the  stars.

They  could  see
many  beautiful  stars
in  the  sky.

Tammy  tried  to  count
all  the  stars,
but  there  were
far  too  many
to  count.
