We Went to Space First!
Paragraph 1
Yuri Gagarin, a cosmonaut from Russia,
was the first human being
who traveled in space.

He left the earth on April 12th, 1961
in a spacecraft
which was called Vostok 1.

Mr. Gagarin traveled at
27,400 kilometers per hour
and it took him 108 minutes
to orbit the earth once.

At that time it was amazing
that people could travel in space
because before 1961 only animals
had been sent into space.
